Dazzling opening ceremony for Green Capital
A 120-metre long high wire on which a cyclist will cross with an acrobat suspended beneath him will be the spectacular opening ceremony of Bristol’s year as European Green Capital on Saturday, January 24.
The wire will be attached 27 metres above the ground between the former A and B bonded warehouses in Hotwells, with tight wire artist Jade Kindar-Martin on the bicycle and Hollywood stuntwoman Karine Mauffrey performing an aerial trapeze routine below.
Bristol-based Cirque Bijou are behind the stunt.
Before the daredevil balancing act there will be a light projection show on the warehouse buildings accompanied by a musical score by Dom Coyote, who brought his show The Raun Tree to the Tobacco Factory Theatre in 2012.
The free event starts at 7pm with the high wire artists starting at A Bond warehouse on Smeaton Road and finishing at the B Bond warehouse, which is now the Create Centre.
