Concerns after paving slabs replaced with tarmac around Queen Square
Some of the paving slabs around Queen Square have been replaced with tarmac, sparking concerns that the change is permanent.
But contractors have confirmed that the new surfacing is in fact only a temporary measure.
A council spokesperson said the works have been carried out by National Grid and that the reinstatement of the slabs is their responsibility.
In a statement, a National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesman said: “The paving slabs in Queen Square were removed as part of work to provide an updated electricity connection for a nearby development [at Welsh Back].
“The tarmac that has been laid is a temporary measure and will be replaced by paving slabs that will follow the original pattern of those taken up.
““Subject to approval from the highways authority, this work will be completed to its specifications by October 20.”
