City Hall to become student accommodation

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Mar 30, 2016

Hundreds of students will soon be moving into City Hall after council bosses agreed to sell off the building.

City Hall is currently undergoing major renovation and Bristol City Council staff were expected to move back in over the next few weeks.

But due to rising costs, the College Green building has now been sold to a major student accommodation provider, becoming just the latest property in the city centre to house students.

Council staff will remain in their temporary offices on Temple Street until permanent premises can be found.

Bristol24/7 understands that one proposed new home for the new council headquarters is the former A bond tobacco warehouse on Cumberland Road (below) – with that location particularly favoured due to its location next to the new MetroBus network.

A council spokesperson said: “We are looking forward to the next step of our strategic journey and joined-up outcomes, empowering our multidisciplinary stakeholders and ensuring this place sharing benefits sustainable communities.”
