Christopher Jefferies drama begins on ITV

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Dec 9, 2014

Three years ago, the tragic story of Joanna Yeates’ disappearance in Bristol gripped the nation.

Today, the first of a two-part television dramatisation focusing on her landlord Christoper Jefferies airs on ITV1.

The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, which was made in Bristol last year and stars Jason Watkins, is based on how the retired Clifton College teacher was wrongfully accused of murdering the 25-year-old landscape architect.

Episode one today looks at Jefferies’ questioning by police and his subsequent vilifying by the national media.  What follows is a descent into chaos and a living nightmare.

Episode two focuses on what happens when he fights back to clear his reputation, embarking upon a journey that will take him through the courts and back into the spotlight.

Production on the show began in early November 2013 when the team set up base in The Bottle Yard’s production offices in Hengrove, recreating the interior of Jefferies’ flat and a police interview room.

Filming also took place on location across Bristol until late December 2013.
