Bristol’s hot air balloon season officially begins

By Betty Woolerton  Tuesday Mar 22, 2022

The unforgettable sight of colourful balloons floating across our city’s skies are about to become the norm – as Bristol’s hot air ballooning season officially begins.

MJ Ballooning’s flight tracker has been launched for 2022 enabling the public to track their 100 balloon’s airborne activity.

The Live Flight Updates page is updated each morning and afternoon with flight status, number of balloons expected and meeting times. Ballooning activity can also be tracked on MJ Ballooning’s social media.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The ballooning season runs from March to October, people will be able to keep up to date with ascents off from Ashton Court Estate and Royal Victoria Park in Bath. Other launch sites include Keynsham Rugby Football Club and Maize Field near Bath.

Meanwhile, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is set to make comeback after a two-year hiatus caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

It comes as dozens of hot air balloons took to the sky from five secret locations as part of Fiesta Fortnight in August 2021.

Returning this year to Ashton Court from August 11 to 14 in its original format, there will be mass balloon ascents in the morning and evening across the four days for this year’s fiesta.
