Bristol Greens elect new leader
Green Party councillors have elected a new leader on the back of more than doubling their presence at the council last week.
Rob Telford, ward councillor for Ashley, promised to focus on vulnerable people while working “constructively” with the mayor, after being chosen to take over.
“I look forward to working constructively with the mayor and the other party group leaders,” he said.
“We will be focused on protecting vulnerable people in Bristol from the government’s austerity cuts, and making green living as easy as possible for residents of the city.”

The Green Party made seven gains in last week’s local council elections, principally at the expense of the Lib Dems.
They are now the third largest party with 13 councillors in Ashley, Bishopston, Cabot, Clifton, Clifton East, Cotham, Easton, Southville and Windmill Hill. Labour hold 30 seats while the Tories hold 16.
Charlie Bolton, Green councillor for Southville who stepped down as leader, said: “Having seen the number of Green councillors double, it is great to see so many talented people join our group. I am really happy to hand over the leadership of the party to Rob, and am sure he will be energetic and forthright in his approach.”
Bishopston councillor Daniella Radice will remain as the Green Party’s assistant mayor for neighbourhoods in George Ferguson’s cabinet.
Mr Ferguson is up for election in May next year. None of the parties have announced a candidate to face him yet.
