Bristol Bridge to reopen to cars weeks after being permanently closed to cars
Cars, vans and lorries will be banned from crossing Bristol Bridge from Saturday as part of a scheme to give priority to buses, cyclists and pedestrians in the city centre.
But less than a month after the temporary closure to cars is made permanent, cars will be allowed back on again as another bridge is repaired.
Work to repair Redcliffe Bascule Bridge Bristol will begin on August 16 and is likely to take around ten weeks.

£1.2m towards the cost of repairs to the aging Redcliffe Bascule Bridge was approved by Bristol City Council’s cabinet members in December 2020.
The bridge, which connects The Grove and Welsh Back to Redcliffe Way, was built in 1938 and rebuilt in 1942 after being damaged by enemy bombing in the Second World War.
During the repairs, it will be closed completely to all traffic and pedestrians in order to install a new clamping mechanism.
Bristol Bridge is the suggested alternative route for vehicles heading both eastbound and westbound during the closure, with the temporary traffic regulation in place until December 31 in case works overrun.
