Agatha Christie’s wartime wedding in Bristol remembered with new plaque
When Agatha Christie got married in Bristol, the wedding was arranged so quickly that she wore her ordinary clothes.
A plaque has now been unveiled at the former church in which the wedding of Agatha Miller and Archibald Christie took place on the afternoon of Christmas Eve 1914.
Captain Christie was on leave from the Royal Flying Corps and Agatha was an as-yet unpublished novelist who would go on to become one of the world’s greatest ever crime writers.

Emmanuel Church on Guthrie Road in Clifton was chosen as the venue for the wedding because it was close to Clifton College, where Archibald’s stepfather was a schoolmaster.
The body of the former church was demolished in the early 1970s and sheltered accommodation was built in its place which is now owned by Brunelcare.
The Clifton & Hotwells Improvement Society plaque was unveiled on Saturday by lord-lieutenant Peaches Golding and crime writer Tim Sullivan.
