Major fire training exercise being held at former zoo
Fire crews from across the Bristol area are due to descend on the former Bristol Zoo on Friday for a major training exercise.
The first Avon Fire & Rescue Service vehicles arrived at the Clifton site soon after 10am.
A “significant presence” of fire engines, emergency service vehicles and personnel is expected with crews due to simulate “a range of emergency scenarios designed to test their skills, coordination and decision-making in challenging conditions”.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service watch manager, Neil Coleman, said: “Training in real environments is a vital part of what we do.
“It enables our crews to build familiarity with different types of buildings and scenarios, ensuring we can respond quickly and effectively when it matters most.
“We are grateful to our partners for their continued support in facilitating these important exercises.”
In May, the former zoo – on which 196 homes are due to be built – is due to host the South Western Ambulance Service hazardous area response team for breathing apparatus training.
