By Erina Mannan  Wednesday Jul 10, 2024

The lead pharmacist at Bedminster Pharmacy has been awarded the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Charter Award.

The prestigious accolade recognises Ade Williams for his significant contribution to the community, particularly in providing comprehensive and affordable healthcare.

The much-loved and familiar face in south Bristol described receiving the award as “profoundly humbling”.

“I am privileged that the pharmacy profession allows us to embody such transformative values unapologetically.”

“Liberating people from ill health and social injustice not only enhances dignity and quality of life but also sows seeds of hope.”

RPS president Claire Anderson and chief executive officer Paul Bennet presented Williams with the award on June 18.

Anderson said: “Ade’s hard work and dedication has made a big difference in patient care and public health.

“Ade’s efforts in promoting vaccination access and supporting the community during challenging times highlight his commitment to the profession.

“It is a privilege to present the charter award to Ade.”

Williams works not only in pharmacies but also on national and regional media platforms, spreading awareness of the role of pharmacists in the wider web of healthcare.

In 2022, Williams was awarded an MBE for his service to the NHS and was named an NHS ‘vaccine hero’ for his efforts in providing accessible vaccinations.

Recently, he was appointed a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Williams was also awarded an honorary doctor of science degree by the UWE Bristol.

Looking to the future, Williams said he wishes to continue aiding those in need through accessible healthcare and in his day-to-day life.
