9-bedroom, Grade II-listed, 330-year-old semi-detached: yours for £1.5m

By Martin Booth  Monday Jun 5, 2023

Built in 1692 for wealthy Bristol merchant James Freeman, Court House has been both a home and offices, and is now for sale as a nine-bedroom house “set up for a prime rental opportunity”.

You can see Freeman’s initials on the shell-hood above the front door of the building on Tailors Court, accessed through a narrow passageway off Broad Street in the Old City.

There aren’t many semi-detached properties quite as grand as this, featuring two main rooms with early 18th century panelling still intact.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

A Norman rear wall survives from an adjoining 12th century hall to the south east that was demolished in 1859.

Court House is for sale with CJ Hole for £1.5m, with estate agent parlance describing it as a “stunning, Grade II listed house in the centre of Bristol’s historic city centre that offers a prime investment opportunity, two parking spaces and no onward chain”.
