Heartbreaking tributes have been left at the side of the road in St Paul’s, where a man was stabbed to death on Friday night.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal attack and appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday. The teenager was also charged with possession of a bladed article.

The case has been referred to Bristol Crown Court.

Police were called to reports of a serious assault at the junction of Ashley Road and City Road at around 5.50pm on Friday, June 21, where officers found a man in a critical condition after suffering injuries in the assault.

The air ambulance and paramedics attended, but the man – named as Darren Edginton – was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Flowers and tributes have been left in tribute at the scene

“Still cant believe your gone, one thing I can promise you is that I will look after our baby girl 100 per cent the best I can,” read one tribute left at the side of Ashley Road.

Another said: “Words cannot describe how I am feeling right now, I can’t believe you are gone. I love you more than you will ever know, my life will never be the same now. Love you always and forever, your sister Sara.”

A man in his 20s was initially arrested near the scene on Friday evening, but was released on Saturday with no further action to be taken.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning and charged later that evening.

Senior investigating officer Andy Mott said: “We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience during the initial stages of this investigation and also thank those who came forward with information following the tragic events on Friday.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood team have been carrying out additional patrols to reassure residents and those will continue for the next couple of days.”

Mott has urged anyone who might have seen something related to the incident to come forward, saying even the smallest bit of information could be significant.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the police on 101 and quote the reference number 5219139586.
