In photos: A balloon ride over Bristol

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Jul 5, 2019

With a gentle breeze and the warmth of the summer sun, a fleet of balloons took to the sky on a recent Thursday evening. Piloted by Derk Maltby, the Bristol Blue Balloon took off from behind Ashton Gate Mansion, flying across the city centre and towards St George.

Families waved and shouted hello and cricketers stopped their game at Netham Park to take photos. Landing in Wick, it was a perfect end to a glorious evening.

Straight after taking off, the first sight was Clifton Suspension Bridge

The flight path took the ballon straight across the city centre

With the Banana Bridge in the distance, there was a great view of south Bristol as well

Bristol stretches into the distance

Queens Square was hosting Bristol Comedy Garden

Castle Park welcomed people with picnics and sunbathers

As the balloon floated over the city centre and towards east Bristol, the high rises of Lawrence Hill and the bustling Stapleton Road were seen

From Easton and Lawrence Hill, the balloon floated over Troopers Hill and across the houses of St George

Leaving the city, fields and suburbs were the view for the remainder of the ride
