Cycling around the block and raising thousands for charity

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday May 6, 2020

Dan Cole had planned to cycle the length of the UK before the coronavirus crisis. Instead, Dan Cole has been cycling around the block to raise money for Bristol hospital charity Above & Beyond.

Instead of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, Dan cycled around the block 1938 times in five days – the equivalent distance, but all cycled in Cotham.

Aiming to raise £2 for every kilometre ridden, he set up a JustGiving page, to “do something positive to help our local NHS hospitals who are doing an amazing job at this difficult time”.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The cyclist smashed his fundraising target, raising more than £6,000 for Above & Beyond, more than £3,500 higher than his goal.

The money raised will benefit frontline staff at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust during the Covid-19 pandemic.
