Photos from the edge

By Pamela Parkes  Tuesday Jan 19, 2016

For the past two years, 20-year-old Sam Robinson has been exploring old buildings and derelict places in Bristol and beyond.

Working with fellow urban explorer Ben Tiley, the pair have Instagram feeds full of breathtaking photos and videos of hidden Bristol.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Sam looks for places which have been untouched for a prolonged period of time, finding locations through the internet or asking friends and colleges if they know of anywhere that is abandoned or neglected.

“The first place I explored properly would be Pilkington’s glass factory in Redcliffe,” he says.

“For me it’s seeing something that has been left neglected, stuck in time and slowly breaking down over the years of weathering.”

“Going somewhere that used to be so full of life but is now an empty shell with small souvenirs left behind and it’s also nice to learn the history of the places I visit,” says Sam.

One of Ben and Sam’s photos features on the March cover of Bristol24/7 magazine – look out for it across the city.
