Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2022, day 2: Heart of BS13

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Dec 1, 2022

Dean Edwards became a patron of Heart of BS13 earlier this year.

Having grown up in south Bristol, the celebrity chef says that he has a real understanding of the circumstances of and challenges faced by people living in the area.

“The area is close to my heart for many reasons,” said Dean.

“I feel absolutely privileged to have been given the opportunity to lend my expertise to such a great organisation with so many different assets that support the local community including the brilliant slow cooker project.

“I’m hoping to use my role as patron to further this fantastic work.”

Heart of BS13 was founded in 1990 by a group of BS13 residents keen to address specific health problems through increased connection with the local environment.

Over the years, the organisation has widened its brief to include mental health support, targeted nutrition and cooking activity and now a focus on social enterprise.

BS13 hosts a variety of community events and activities throughout the year, including several coming up in December:

Heart of BS13 grows and arranges beautiful seasonal cut flowers from their flower farm and studio at Hartcliffe City Farm.

The charity also prepares handmade home-style ready meals made in small batches and delivered to your door. Every purchase helps fund food poverty work in BS13.
