Bristol Charity Advent 2022, Day 23: Bristol Hub

By Yasmin Attwood  Monday Dec 19, 2022

Bristol Hub is a social action charity that supports students in tackling social challenges, learning about issues and connecting with one another.

A local branch of national charity Student Hubs, the organisation runs several social action programmes designed to get students involved in helping improve the lives of people in Bristol.

Bristol Hub’s vision is a society in which every student engages with social and environmental challenges during their time at university, empowering them to become active citizens. It strives to do this by mainstreaming student social action, providing practical opportunities alongside training and skill development.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The charity aims to reach students who “otherwise wouldn’t engage and empower them to become active citizens, so that they can achieve positive change now and after they graduate”.

Some of Bristol Hubs projects are:

  • the Schools Plus scheme, which aims to address educational inequalities in the city through specialised support for young people. Bristol Hub does this by pairing school students with university student tutors to help them reach their academic potential
  • the Branch Up programme, which gives fun days out to disadvantaged seven to 11-year-olds
  • the LinkAges programme connects the student population with older people to help tackle problems of loneliness and social isolation.

Bristol Hub president Shivali Agrawal believes it is important that students “don’t just live in a student bubble”, with a main aim of the charity to bridge the gap between students and members of their wider community.

It was founded in 2008 by students who wanted a more organised way of getting involved in charity projects.
