Behind the scenes at buymie – Bristol’s fastest growing grocery service

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Jun 17, 2021

Buymie delivers from big-name retailers like Tesco, Asda and Co-op and you can get £20 off your first order.

Ireland’s leading same-day grocery delivery service is taking Bristol by storm and we had the chance to talk with one of its specially-trained shoppers to find out more about how it all works.

Busy Bristol-based buymie shopper Agata typically works five or six days a week, delivering groceries from retailers like Tesco, Asda and Co-op to homes across the city. Her work schedule is flexible so fits in perfectly with her lifestyle.

She said: “We’re the only same-day delivery service that provides a weekly shop and can deliver in as little as an hour.

“It all starts with what’s on for dinner tonight. We do our very best to get every single ingredient so our customers aren’t let down.”

So how does it work?

buymie can get your weekly big-basket grocery shop, from brands you know and love, delivered in as little as an hour.

Agata explained: “Most people tend to be quite picky about the supermarket they choose so buymie gives customers the chance to shop their favourite store and get large basket, same-day delivery.

“I have a friendly relationship with our regulars and I also know the supermarket layouts well so my shopping is always speedy and efficient.”

Flexibility of service

Shoppers welcomed buymie during lockdown so they didn’t have to visit the busy supermarket or wait weeks for a delivery slot. Now they can’t imagine ever giving up such a time-saving and convenient service.

Agata agreed: “Customers really like the flexibility – especially if they’ve forgotten to plan their shopping days in advance.

“Many of them don’t have a car or prefer not to make multiple journeys so we often find they select bigger household items, such as nappies and washing powder, as part of their weekly grocery shop.”

Efficient and sustainable

Sustainability is a hot topic in Bristol these days which is why buymie efficiently assigns shoppers to customers in the same area and groups together multiple deliveries.

Agata revealed: “We have a special buymie shopper app which looks similar to the customer version but we use it to manage our schedule and check what jobs have been assigned.

“If I’m doing multiple jobs at one supermarket, the app will alert me beforehand so it’s easy to manage and organise more than one customer’s shopping at a time.”

No annoying substitutes

With no basket size limit, there are thousands of items to choose from, and you can even add up to six extra items once the buymie shopper is in store. If products are out of stock your buymie shopper will even call to offer an alternative.

Agata said: “For any out of stock items we either substitute or call the customer to suggest a change, depending on which preference they selected when they ordered.

“Customers really love this part of the service as they know we take care when selecting fresh produce and we are extremely mindful of use-by dates. It means there are no annoying substitutes and their avocados will always be perfectly ripe!”
