Shop of the Week: Robert’s Home Bakery, Henbury

By Alice Galliott  Friday Sep 5, 2025

Robert’s Home Bakery is an independent local bakery based on Crow Lane in Henbury.

The small, independent bakery is owned by husband and wife team, Aneta and Robert Balcerzak, who hand make all goods for their shop.

The fresh smell of bread loaves, pastries, doughnuts, pizzas and baguettes welcomes visitors in as they drop in for their daily fix of baked goods or just a takeaway coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

Speaking to Bristol24/7 on a recent afternoon, Aneta Balcerzak said: “We live very close, in the Brentry area, it’s very close and its nice being a short distance, you can be here every time in 5 minutes.

“I am proud that we bake everything here, we have a small bakery at the back, and everything is fresh, it’s not like frozen stuff.

“It’s a really hard job, but we are very happy because we see customers come back and they always are happy and are impressed.”

The couple opened  Robert’s Home Bakery in November 2022, primarily operating from their home, a short walk from the bakery’s current site.

Aneta added: “We started from home, Robert Bakery for first two years was from home and that was pre order and then we decided to open a small bakery.

“It wasn’t easy, it was very difficult, six months we tried to get this local and that was really stressful, but we did it.”

Cakes, croissants and pastries were just some of the fresh goods on display

Robert’s Home Bakery, is located adjacent to a Greggs branch, which Aneta admits has posed a challenge for their business. “They have loads of customers like sometimes people are scared to try something new, but when they try they come back, but this is like a difficult challenge for us,” Aneta said.

The bakery named after Aneta’s husband and co-owner Robert, was inspired from his dreams as a young boy.

Aneta continued: “My husband is a baker, and it is his dream to have a small bakery. When Robert was like a young boy, he learned the recipe from school, and he still does the same.”

Robert’s Home Bakery doesn’t add any chemicals to their breads and goods, which Aneta and Robert believe is important now because “most people have now had problems with stomach”. To prevent this they add “nothing nasty” to their products and use “normal egg, normal flour and butter, not like cheap margarine and then milk.”
