Homophobic protesters thwarted as Drag Queen Story Hours take place
Homophobic protesters have been thwarted after three libraries in Bristol hosted Drag Queen Story Hours.
Parents and carers who had booked into the storytelling session with drag queen Aida H Dee on Friday were contacted with new times and locations.
It followed the postponement of the event at Henleaze Library the previous day in which protesters and counter-protesters clashed in ugly scenes.
Aida H Dee tweeted: “Amazing day today in Bristol, with loads and loads of attendees, bit with ZERO protesters?
“Why? Because we accidentally called up all attendees and swapped locations and times… oopsies!”
Drag Queen Story Hours were originally meant to be taking place on Thursday at the libraries in Henleaze, Hillfields and Stockwood, and on Friday in Filwood, Henbury and Junction 3 in Easton.
Aida H Dee’s tour is currently touring across the UK during the school summer holidays.
The event’s website says that the sessions will “engage your child’s creativity and love for reading stories by giving them a brand-new, positive experience, one page at a time… all the while, learning and communicating! Let’s get fabulous!”
But some protesters claim that Drag Queen Story Hours are “grooming” and “child abuse”.
