Pub of the week: The New Found Out
Nestled on the corner of a residential street in Totterdown, conversation in the pub garden of The New Found Out echoes throughout the terraced houses.
The garden is an unglamourous affair, simply two benches along the pavement with a lattice fence surrounding them, but is a good enough offering for the multiple groups of beer drinkers on a recent sunny evening.
The inside of the pub is small, with the sun shining through the windows and onto the bar, where the bartender recommends drinks.
“Get the cheap vodka,” she says. “It’s the same price for a double shot of the cheap stuff as a single shot of Smirnoff.”
Inside the pub was quiet on a recent sunny evening.
A double vodka and Coke in hand, a first-time visitor takes their seat. Inside the pub is empty, the murmurs of Ben Sheppard on Tipping Point providing a soundtrack to the evening.
A Scottie dog gallops through the pub as his owner takes a seat at the bar, ordering a pint of Natch and chatting to the lady behind the bar. It’s a simple selection of drinks: the ales on tap are Doom Bar, Tribute and John Smith’s, the lagers include Stella Artois and Foster’s.
A simple and unfussy offering, but then again, this is a simple and unfussy pub. Ordering another drink, the first-time visitor basks in the sunlight shining through the windows and listens to the murmur of tea-time quiz shows.
