Pop-up food venue, events space and bar opening soon

By Martin Booth  Thursday Nov 12, 2020

The second national lockdown has put plans for The Scrandit back a few weeks.

But when it does reopen, the former shop on Christmas Steps will be available to hire as a multi-functional pop-up space focusing on food and events.

But its owners also say that the versatility of the space also opens it up for an eclectic variety of possible uses.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

These could include supper clubs, exhibitions, live music, theatre or comedy.

The Scrandit co-owners Josh Dickinson and Max Laird-Hopkins originally took on 14 Christmas Steps (formerly Weber & Tring’s) as a location to trial and launch Chori Bandits, a pop-up kitchen serving Argentinian choripan, inspired by their travels to South America.

“Seeing the space come to life and the buzz surrounding the venue it became very apparent how great this location is” Josh and Max told Bristol24/7.

“The events enabled us to share our food and show off the great space with friends, family and curious passers-by.”

They added: Our focus is to provide opportunities to new start-ups, providing a space to present their food and brands.

“We’ve seen so many incredible start-ups pushing boundaries and adapting to these difficult times already and I’m sure you’ll see some of these at The Scrandit soon!

“During and after lockdown the support for local businesses, independent shops and new enterprises has been amazing to see and we hope to carry this on.”
