When life gives you lemons, make burgers

By Bristol24/7  Friday Feb 17, 2017

Bristol can’t get enough of good burgers – and we’re about to become even more spoiled with the opening of Lemonade in Cargo 2.

Lemonade is being opened by Alex Hayes, formerly of Rebel Roll on Redcliff Street, who promises some old favourites and plenty of new discoveries.

Alex’s St Werburger – a double-chuck patty with Monterey Jack, confit shallots, smoked bacon and caper aioli, chipotle and tomato relish, all between a brioche bun – made it into Bristol24/7 readers’ best burgers list and was also named by Wriggle as among Bristol’s best burgers.

Having recently resigned from Rebel Roll, Alex says that “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade; a phrase that my new business was not built around but has since become quite pertinent”.

He added: “There’s a lot of detail and hard work that goes into the burgers – every sauce and accompaniment is made by hand, from scratch.

“Alongside these will be skin on, hand cut fries and an array of homemade lemonades which will also explore a diversity of interesting flavours and combinations – much in the same way as the burgers.”

Lemonade is set to open alongside the second wave of businesses at Cargo 2 at Wapping Wharf including Spuntino, Salt & Malt and Gambas as early as May. For more information, follow Lemonade on Twitter via @bristollemonade
