Special brew created for Bristol Craft Beer Festival

By Charlie Watts  Tuesday Apr 13, 2021

The signature brew for this year’s Bristol Craft Beer Festival has been created – and is described as having a tropical fruity flavour with a touch of spice.

The New England-style pale ale is brewed with a new hop called Talus, as well as Xawaash, a Somali blend of spices.

The spices were selected by Fozia Ismail, the founder of Somali supper club Arawelo Eats, who has worked with St Werburgh’s brewery Wiper and True to create the new beverage.

Fozia says: “It’s so fantastic to be bringing these amazing East African flavours into a collaboration with Wiper and True.

“I’m also going to be helping to create a complementary East African street food offering, that’s going to pair perfectly with it.”

The Bristol Craft Beer Festival brings breweries together from around the world, alongside DJs and street food.

Like last year’s festival, this year’s event will have safety measures in place due to the coronavirus.

Bristol Craft Beer Festival founder Greg Wells adds: “The festival brew is a great way to collaborate with some of the most insanely creative people in the city.

“This is going to be a really unique creation indeed; Fozia is bringing some incredible East African inspirations and I personally can’t wait to sample this one.”

The first pour of the new brew will be made at the Bristol Craft Beer Festival 2021, which returns to Lloyds Amphitheatre across three days from June 11 to 13.
