Soul Fish opens on Gloucester Road

By Martin Booth  Monday Nov 30, 2015

Rocco’s at the bottom of the Gloucester Road tucked away next door to Sainsbury’s was a Bristol institution. Soul Fish have big shoes to fill.

The Italian restaurant even featured in the video for Love is a Losing Game by Amy Winehouse. Watch out for the handstand at 1.56:

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Co-owned by Vashti Seth, the CEO and Founder of Bristol based microfinance charity Deki, Soul Fish is a cut-above your average chippie.

Vashti has gone into business with her husband and childhood sweetheart Stuart Seth, formerly head chef at legendary bygone Bristol restaurant Rocinantes as well as Quartier Vert, Ocean tapas bar and more recently The Royal Oak further up Gloucester Road.

Alongside the typical chippie fare of cod or hake, there are the likes of monkfish scampi, half a pint of Atlantic prawns and cockle popcorn.

Then there are the po’ boys (£6.50 each), New Orleans-style sandwiches. There’s The Original with pulled brisket, horseradish mayo, pickled chilies and Louisiana Hot Sauce; The Chicken with buttermilk fried chicken, coleslaw and Hot Sauce; The Veggie with halloumi, pickled veg and Soul Fish house sauce; and last but by no means least The Shrimp packed to the gills with fried shrimp.

You can even wash it all down with the house red or white wine, or a can from the Dings’ Moor Beer Co; the alcohol license inherited from Rocco’s, the heritage of fine food continuing.
