Restaurant to close after more than 20 years

By Martin Booth  Monday Jul 7, 2025

What began as a street food truck at the Glastonbury Festival later had multiple restaurants across Bristol.

But soon only one Thali will remain as the team announced that they are closing after being in Easton for more than 20 years.

Thali have won national accolades including best cheap eats in the Observer Food Monthly Awards and best takeaway in the the BBC Radio 4 Food & Farming Awards, as well as being well-known for their tiffins.

In good news, the restaurant on St Mark’s Road will be taken on by the owners of nearby Chai Guy.

Chai Guy have locations in both Easton and Barcelona, serving vegan masala chai and karak chai.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the Thali team said: “After 20+ amazing years, Easton Thali is closing its doors.

“Huge love and thanks to all our brilliant staff and loyal customers – it’s been one hell of a ride!

“The good news? Bahram from Chai Guy is taking over the space with a brand new concept and we can’t wait to see what he cooks up!

“Need your Thali fix? Our friends Asha & Ramesh at Montpelier Thali have you covered and are keeping the Thali favourites going strong.

“Much love, Team Thali”
