New restaurant promises ‘UK’s first gourmet Jamaican fried chicken’
An authentic restaurant celebrating the flavours of a Caribbean island nation has arrived in Bristol.
Joining other Jamaican restaurants in the city is Jamaya, a Birmingham-based restaurant best known for serving the “UK’s first gourmet Jamaican fried chicken”.
Named after owner Byron Carnegie’s daughter, Maya, the independent restaurant has two locations in Birmingham, the first of which opened in 2019.

Taking up the spot of former dessert parlour Sprinkles on Millennium Promenade, the team envisions bringing its “unmistakable Jamaya flavour” to the city.
At the new Bristol site, people can choose from their famous jerk chicken, authentic stews, wraps, burgers and more on their main menu, or dive into their bottomless brunch and Sunday roast offerings.
After a few days in business, the Jamaya team shared their excitement on Instagram: “As we open the doors to our brand-new Jamaya in Bristol, I want to take a moment to give thanks to the most high for the continuous blessings.
“To every single customer who’s supported us since 2019, thank you. You made this journey possible.
“To all the staff, past and present, who’ve put in the graft and helped us reach this moment… I appreciate every one of you.
“As an independent restaurant, this milestone means the world.”
