New Japanese supermarket and cafe opens

By Janine Tan  Saturday Apr 11, 2026

A new Japanese supermarket and cafe is now open inside a shopping centre in Bristol.

Tsubaki Ippinya is a seafood market, sushi shop, cafe and grocery store inside The Galleries.

Customers are greeted with an impressive range of authentic Asian groceries like dumplings and flavours of Buldak ramen stocked in the supermarket’s shelves.

The shop also sells some lesser-known imported products that might not be easily found elsewhere. These include vermicelli noodles, tempura batter, and a selection of Asian sauces and drinks.

One of the shop’s defining features is its fresh meat and seafood counter. Resembling Asian wet markets, an array of fish, scallops, clams and crab rest on ice at the shop’s counter.

For those after a quicker fix, the fresh sushi section offers ready-to-eat options.

Meanwhile, the in-store cafe serves Japanese treats, like dorayaki, bubble tea and freshly squeezed juices.

In a post on Facebook, the supermarket’s team said: “A huge thank you to everyone who popped in to see us.”

“We truly appreciate your continued support and love having you as part of our community.”
