A new cider from Bristol and for Bristol

By Martin Booth  Friday Apr 29, 2022

A new cider is one of the first to be made in Bristol for a number of years.

The Bristol Blend from Branch will be on tap from Friday at the Duke of York in St Werburgh’s, the Greenbank in Easton and the Apple on Welsh Back.

More ciders from Branch will also soon be able to be enjoyed in a taproom within apple pip-spitting distance of Gloucester Road.

The man behind Branch is Ed Gibson from the Apple who previously ran the Croft on Gloucester Road and was also involved behind the scenes at the famous Ashton Court Festival.

Ed is hoping to make Branch one of the world’s first zero-waste drinks companies, with a commitment to returning and refilling bottles.

Ed hopes that Branch will become “the radical craft cider company that Bristol deserves”.

Writing on the Branch website, Ed said: “There’s nothing Bristolians like more than a cold, fizzy, easy-drinking cider. So for our first release, we’ve reworked the modern session cider…

“Bristol Blend has a lot more juice than your typical modern session cider and a lot more cider apples, so it has a lot more going on.”

The Bristol Blend is described as “tangy, zingy and easy-breezy, with hidden depths and complexity, just like us Bristolians”.

Branch will be launching a crowdfunding campaign for their refillable bottles this summer and hope to open their taproom at 15A Merton Road close to Deck cafe in June.
