Bristol cheesemonger named among South West’s best
A Bristol cheesemonger has been named one of the region’s best specialist dairy shops.
Speciality Food Magazine has rounded up the ten best cheese shops across the South West, with the Bristol Cheesemonger earning a place on the list.
Originally founded in 2013 by Rosie Morgan, the business was taken over in 2021 by husband and wife team Oli Smith and Jenny Howell.
The team now operates from premises on Gloucester Road after closing their first permanent home at Wapping Wharf, with local connections and regional produce at the heart of the business – from cheesemaker to cheeseboard.

Reflecting on the accolade, Oli said: “There are a lot of good cheese shops around so it’s fantastic to be in such good company on that list, and great that Bristol’s amazing food scene continues to get recognition.
“The past few years have not been without challenges in retail and hospitality and we’ve certainly seen our fair share of that.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this listing since moving to our new premises on Gloucester Road.

He added: “Moving the shop was a bit of a risk but we’ve had a fantastic welcome here and many of our old regulars are still coming to the shop which is great to see.
“The new shop has allowed us to do a few new things too; we’ve been hosting our own tasting events for the first time, having regular visits from cheesemakers to chat to customers, and we’ve introduced a great selection of ciders to complement the cheeses.
“As ever we’re keeping it mostly local and working directly with small scale farmhouse producers.”
Others included in the list were the Fine Cheese Co in Bath, Forest Deli in Coleford, and the Cheeseworks in Cheltenham.
