Food and drink fun, games and veggies
A festival just for vegetarians, a dim-sum supper club for busy parents that they can bring their children to, and two new restaurant openings. Bristol food and drink fans are being kept very busy.
Vegfest in the Lloyds Amphitheatre is the biggest of the lot; in fact it’s the biggest veggie event in Europe, with 25,000 people expected from Friday to Sunday for a selection of caterers, cookery demos, talks and exhibitions with kid’s activities, alongside headliners including Boney M, Joy Division’s Peter Hook and ABBA Gold.
On Friday evening, The Hungry Caterpillar play cafe on Cannon Street in Bedminster will host Cantonese chefs from Ah-Ma’s Dumplings. Children will be entertained by professional entertainers in the cafe’s play room whilst adults can enjoy the food and BYO drinks.

From June 27, the cafe will be teaming up with Tim Owen of DineWithI to run Friday night supper clubs every week through the summer.
There are also two new openings. Caribbean vegetarian cafe and restaurant Fi Real is now open in a former bank on West Street in Old Market.
South of the river, Birch opens today on Raleigh Road in Southville. It is the first restaurant of Sam Leach, former supper club host and most recently a baker at Mark’s Bread.
