Review: What the Ladybird Heard, Colston Hall
You might have never heard of Julia Donaldson if you don’t have children, but for young readers Donaldson is the creator of many characters they love the most, from the Gruffalo with his knobbly knees and turned-out toes to a witch with plenty of room on her broom.
What the Ladybird Heard by Donaldson has now been turned into a stage show which had my own three-and-a-half-year-old young reader absolutely captivated.
There are good guys and bad guys and it is the titular coccinellid beetle that becomes the hero of the tale.
The ladybird literally saves the farm’s bacon in a story that is fun, colourful and has musical numbers memorable enough to have audience members young and old singing them with gusto when leaving the Colston Hall.
What the Ladybird Heard is at the Colston Hall until Sunday. Visit www.colstonhall.org/shows/what-the-ladybird-heard.
