Preview: Windrush to Carnival, Bristol Hippodrome

By Charlotte Millington  Tuesday Sep 25, 2018

Bristol lord mayor Cleo Lake promises a “true variety-style show” at the Hippodrome on Wednesday evening, with a tribute to the Windrush generation raising money for charity.

Windrush to Carnival will feature a medley of live music, dance, poetry and comedy all in Afro-Caribbean style.

The lineup is certainly extensive and includes names such as Celestine (pictured above), Black Flamez, Young Lion and Seeds of Windrush.

Lake says that a highlight of the show is will be the newly formed dance group Revive featuring women of all ages, including perhaps even Lake herself, who is a qualified dance teacher.

Windrush to Carnival is a Lord Mayor’s Charity fundraiser supporting Oscar, a charity supporting sickle cell anaemia research.

“Not only will it be a fantastic show celebrating and highlighting this important aspect of history, but it also gives the opportunity for a host of incredible local artists to grace the big stage and for the people of Bristol to have a great night out in one of Bristol’s best venues,” Lake told Bristol24/7.
