Elisabeth Gunawan plays AI chatbot ‘ROSE’ in immersive theatrical headphones experience
From global-majority led theatre producers KISS WITNESS and writer and performer Elisabeth Gunawan, an Edinburgh Fringe smash hit show will be making its debut in Bristol over two consecutive nights in April.
Against a set built from recycled electronics, Stampin’ In The Graveyard is an immersive and interactive experience blending poetry, movement and soundscapes.
Through an elegant use of silent disco headphones, every individual in the audience is led “through the end of the world”.
The ‘graveyard’ of the title refers to the death of humanity, as the action unfolds from the perspective of AI chatbot ROSE, who is learning about her human creator by sifting through fragmented memories of “a vanished civilisation”.
The audience will be able to manipulate the action live, selecting their preferred strands from a number of alternative narrative pathways.
For the makers, the result is a story that is at once “heartbreaking and hopeful”, underscoring the enduring human desire for connection.
Aisha Ali is the manager and artist development lead at The Wardrobe Theatre, which will be hosting the show. “Stampin’ In The Graveyard is a thought-provoking piece about AI and the future told through a personal lens”, they say.
“It is visually stunning with beautiful physicality from Elisabeth Gunawan and an experimental choose-your-own-adventure approach for the audience. We are excited to present this piece in Bristol for the first time!”
