Thunderbirds are go at 6 Music Fringe

By Alison Maney  Tuesday Feb 9, 2016

Thunderbirds are go at Bristol’s 6 Music Festival Fringe. Charles Hazlewood and his All Star Collective are returning to the city for a newly-added Radio 6 Fringe event at St George’s celebrating the music of the Thunderbirds theme composer, Barry Gray.

It will be second chance for Jarvis Cocker to join proceedings. In October last year, Cocker was set to join Hazlewood in a similarly Gray-themed performance but was ultimately unable to attend due to illness.

Members of the Paraorchestra, the only orchestra consisting entirely of disabled musicians, will also accompany Hazlewood and his All Star Collective in performing some of Gray’s strange and memorable arrangements.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The group will perform popular Gray earworms from puppet-heavy 60s shows such as Stingray, Captain Scarlett and Thunderbirds.

Gray’s energetic music, heavily influenced by 60s pop and big band, is most commonly recognised in children’s television shows of the 1960s. The set will feature Gray’s own Ondes Martenot, one of the earliest electronic instruments.
