The Exchange fight back against hoax band with fundraiser night

By Rhys Buchanan  Tuesday Nov 13, 2018

In the true spirit of Bristol’s independent venues; The Exchange are refusing to be beaten by the hoax band Threatin, who tricked the venue into booking them as part of their UK tour recently.

Last week the venue were part of a UK wide internet storm about an Los Angeles based band who had faked their way into securing a major UK tour (which nobody attended).

The Exchange was mislead into booking the band by a fake online following, label and management company. Despite getting the hire fee reluctantly paid, the venue stressed how financially damaging the bizarre stunt was:

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“Venue hires themselves don’t cover all the costs of opening, especially when you put on enough staff and security to deal with 180 people. On top of that the equipment hire company and support bands walked away having not been paid.”

So in response The Exchange have announced a fundraiser night called ‘Threatin – Breaking The World party’, which will be see the Threatin album played in full for those who missed the eventful show.

In a statement the venue jokingly said, “Listening party for the record of our generation, Breaking The World, playing on repeat all night long. Will more people come to this that went to the actual show? Almost certainly!”

They’ve also said there will be interviews with the people who were there on the fateful night and have invited local bands to come and play covers of Threatin songs. This show is free entry but donations are encouraged and will be shared between everyone the band tricked.

The listening party will take place on Monday 19 November. Free tickets are available through: www.exchangebristol.com
