Review: Getdown Services, Trinity Centre – ‘Doing the Cha Cha Slide while being pelted with bags of Wotsits’
I can’t remember the last time I went to a gig that was as genuinely enjoyable as Getdown Services.
Rounding off their 2025 tour dates, the duo played two sold-out nights at the Trinity Centre. According to one half of the pair, Josh Law, there were more than 1,000 people on the wait list for these shows and, now that I’ve been, I can see why.
Opened by the fabulously bonkers The Naughty Naughty Woo Woo Experience, this show was captivating from the get-go. Was I expecting the opener to be a band? Yes. But, being greeted by a trio clad in sequin jackets and papier-mache seagull heads, dancing to Cha Cha Slide and lobbing bags of crisps into the audience was the perfect introduction to the night.

I can’t imagine anything being more ‘Getdown Services’-esque than this opener: they were truly fantastic.
Not long after, Getdown Services roared onto the stage. After a brief interlude of lovingly telling the crowd to “f**k off”, they jumped headfirst into their incredible discography.
Chaotic, full-out and yet touching delicately on sensitive themes like men’s mental health, it’s no wonder that the band have been making waves the last couple of years.
Singing about Jamie Oliver, crisps, quiche – and some other, non-food related songs – before jumping into an acoustic, solemn performance about “the worst period of my life” is no mean feat, but the pair made it feel effortless and entertaining throughout.

After being joined on stage once more by The Naughty Naughty Woo Woo Experience for an elaborate dance break session, the pair donned their infamous shirtless get-up.
Laughing that they were “overplayed, overhyped and overweight”, they got the crowd head-banging, jumping and skipping arm-in-arm with strangers.
Getdown Services have perfected the art of keeping their audience in the palm of their hand. This show was a masterstroke in balancing hard-hitting material with comedic performance and, more than anything, it was so clear that they were having the best time.
Next time they play locally, I’ll definitely be joining the thousands on their wait lists in hopes of seeing them again.
Getdown Services are shortlisted for Best Music Newcomer in Bristol24/7’s Bristol Legends awards. Read more about it here.
