Nu-jazz sensation Stevie Toddler launches album

By Ursula Billington  Thursday May 16, 2024

Music fans looking for a slice of jazz-pop perfection should head to Dareshack on Friday, where Bristol’s eminent bass-playing band leader Stevie Toddler will be launching new album Last Time Forever.

Stevie Jo Dooley’s songs draw on pop, jazz and classical worlds to produce something comfortingly familiar yet wholly her own.

Her glimmering, ethereal vocals from the heart untangle identity, belonging, and love-in-a-modern-world confusions; her intuitive basslines groove, stride and doc-marten stomp in turns; she’s slick, stylish, self-assured and, above all, relatable.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Hints of Kamasi Washington style nu-jazz soundscapes, breathy emotion and gloriously funky synth chops collide in Stevie’s unique musical world, gaining her support from BBC 6 Music and Jamie Cullum on Radio 2.

Her stellar band of Bristol’s finest comprises Harriet Riley (Spindle Ensemble, Tezeta) on vibes and percussion, Danny Tryani of explosive polyphonic 9-piece Tryani Collective on synths and Jon Clark (Buena Bristol Social Club, Bristol Salsa Orchestra) on drums.

Support comes from Rosie Tee, with an atmospheric blend of psych, electronica and avant garde pop; and Boci, a Bristol artist making waves with her astral alt folk inspired by the natural world.

The album launch is on May 17. For more details and tickets visit www.headfirstbristol.co.uk/whats-on/dareshack/fri-17-may-stevie-toddler-album-launch-105309#e105309
