By Ursula Billington  Friday Oct 10, 2025

A new record shop is planning a launch party full of “all the things that make life worth living”.

Hot Wax will open in the Old Drumbank Studios on Somerville Road on Saturday, October 11, and owner Nathan Worm has a day of digging, DJs and drinks planned to celebrate.

Doors open at 10am and there will be three listening decks available and “an extra amount of vinyl to sift through”, as well as other products to browse including prints, tees, hats and accessories.

At 4pm Hot Wax hosts its first instore, with seven DJs playing vinyl through until 10pm, a bar stocked with Arbor and Wiper & True beers, and pizzas available by the slice from Smallfire.

The dynamic lineup features SWU.fm presenter Mike Shawe, Back 2 Life podcast host Milly On Air, brakery and Girl On Girl stalwart Mish Mash, Owen from afro/boogie/funk purveyors More Soup, Noods presenter and Red Church resident Tim Spencer and Jake Worm as well as Nathan himself.

The system will be powered by Nathan’s vintage 1969 KLH Model 5 speakers.

Vinyl on offer in the shop will be in “an array of genres from Bristol suitable electronic styles” including global grooves, jazz, funk, hip hop, psych “and beyond”, and those buying records will be eligible for a £2 coffee from Radical Roasters onsite cafe all weekend.

The shop has local art on the wall and on launch day there will be an exhibition of prints by Patch D Keyes, the artist who created the distinctive poster art for Nathan’s eclectic music events the Worm Disco Club.

Though these and other events Nathan has brought acts including the Comet is Coming, WITCH, Shabaka Hutchings, Colin Stetson, corto.alto, Jamz Supernova and London Elektricity to independent venues in Bristol.

He’s currently focused on growing his revivalist d’n’b night Slippin’ and pouring energy into Hot Wax, saying he is incredibly excited to finally throw open the doors.

The Hot Wax launch event takes place on October 11 from 10am-10pm. Find all information at headfirstbristol.co.uk/whats-on/the-old-drumbank-studios-sommerville-road-/sat-11-oct–hot-wax-record-shop-opening-party
