First release for Bristol’s underground urban choir
Bristol’s boundary-breaking, tradition bending vocal troupe Bass Choir have released their first original single.
The track, Brand New, reflects the rich palette of bass and beats the choir pull from, driven by up-tempo rhythm with elements of drum and bass, breakbeat and UK Garage.
They call themselves a “musical ensemble of peace, love and unity”, and the song is an upbeat love song with a sweet vocal hook that serves as a positive affirmation for singers and listeners alike.
is needed now More than ever
It features ‘like-minded maverick’, award winning ‘vocal vibes specialist’ Dread MC, a local bass artist who released his own solo album with a host of collaborators in 2022.
The choir says, for them ‘Bass’ encompasses “music with a percussive, bass-led rhythm – Club Music, ENERGY.”
They fuse d’n’b, UK Garage, Dubstep, Jungle, Reggae, Breakbeat and myriad fusions in between, “representing Bristol’s active and diverse underground urban music scene.”
”It is important to remember the importance of music and what it does to people. It brings people together, regardless of race, background or religion,” said the choir’s founder and musical director August.
“Bass Music is inclusive, it will never be one genre, it will never be one sound. It creates unity, equality, a community, and makes people that are receptive sit back and understand other cultures and the fact that we are not really that much different.”
They last performed at Shindig festival in May, and have previously sung at Boomtown, Love Saves the Day, Bristol Harbour Festival and Lakota Summer of Love, among others.
