Experimental hip hop video takes in nine Bristol locations
Experimental musician ssadcharlie deals in big themes and raw emotion.
Their music, already filling out an album, an EP and more at 21 years old, makes use of a range of genres including punk, grime and electronica to express ideas around love, loss and identity. The results often feel uncompromising, achingly honest and unashamedly vulnerable.
The artist, whose live performances include Glastonbury festival and their biggest hometown show to date at this year’s Love Saves the Day, has explored their Bristol roots in a short film that takes in nine locations they spent time while growing up.

The short, i’m not like the other girls, was shot over one weekend to reflect the quick turnaround production of the associated EP which was created in only 12 hours. It features Purdown, Leigh Woods, a cliffside near Clifton suspension bridge, Trenchard Street car park and the harbour.
The artist has said growing up in Bristol allowed them to experiment with different musical and performance styles and scenes, and announcing the EP, Ssadcharlie said: “This is for Bristol”,
The short follows ssadcharlie over the course of a day, moving through various chapters that are each accompanied by a song from the EP including spending time with friends, attempting to communicate complex feelings and ending up alone in reflection at the end of the day, as represented by the track Bored. It was directed, shot and edited by br4kewell and produced by frrasr.
The artist has since released a follow up single, Wanted you 2 know, which they said is about “paranoia and cold feet… Everyone has a soft spot for someone. This song hopefully helps encapsulate that feeling.”
