Bristol marks Independent Venue Week with gig

By Laura Williams  Monday Jan 12, 2015

Following on from last November’s focus on independent venues in Bristol, Independent Venue Week arrives in the city this month.

It is a seven day celebration of small music venues around the UK, and is being marked in Bristol by a Chiverin showcase at The Louisiana. Aled Chivers, the mastermind behind Chiverin, said: “These venues give artists their first experience of playing live in front of an audience and for fans, somewhere to get up close to artists that one day, may well be playing stadiums and festival main stages. People sometimes take these venues for granted so IVW stands to raise awareness of the great things taking place within them and the hard work it takes to keep them afloat.”

Chiverin is curating a showcase at The Louisiana on January 30, which features some exciting bands, including The Bronze Medal – which were recently listed by NME as releasing one of 30 brilliant albums you shouldn’t have missed in 2014; Goan Dogs, who have been creating great music in the underbelly of Bristol’s music scene for a little while and are ready to take it to the next level; and Rebecca Clements is set for absolute stardom and has had a huge response to her debut singles. Her intimate set in the cellar is likely to be a really special one.
