Bristol kids invited to take part in Treefest

By Laura Williams  Monday Nov 10, 2014

Schoolchildren from across the city will join together for a music concert at this year’s Treefest in Bristol.

School choirs are invited to ‘come and sing in Narnia’ in order to entertain visitors marvelling at the 100 decorated Christmas trees at Treefest – which runs from Dec 9-13m 2015.

The Treefest will be open for public viewing between 10am and 6pm on the above dates. There will be no charge for entry but visitors will be invited to make a donation towards the work of the High Sheriff of Bristol’s charity, Bristol Youth and Community Action and the Arc Café.

A number of musicians have signed up already, but the Treefest organisers are keen to hear from primary and secondary school choirs who would like to sing for a short period on one of the days.

“It will be a bit like singing in the forest of Narnia,” says St Mary Redcliffe’s director of music and organist, Andrew Kirk, in a reference to C.S. Lewis’s the fantasy novels The Chronicles of Narnia.

Performers already booked to provide seasonal music during the Treefest include singers from Bristol University’s Schola Cantorum (Dec 9 at 5pm), organist Andrew Kirk (Dec 11 at 1.15pm), French horn player Sue Tyley (Dec 12 at 1pm) and jazz musicians Park Row Five (Dec 13 at 11am).

Schools, choirs and other musicians who would like to provide music during the Treefest are asked to contact Andrew Kirk by email at [email protected] or call St Mary Redcliffe’s parish office on 0117 929 1487.
