Terry Gilliam joins Slapstick 2024 line-up

By Robin Askew  Monday Dec 4, 2023

The number of ex-Pythons at next February’s Slapstick Festival has just doubled with the late addition of the great Terry Gilliam to the bill. As previously announced, Michael Palin will be present for a look back at Alan Bleasdale’s political comedy GBH, in which he co-starred. Now he’s joined by Gilliam in the festival’s dark comedy strand.

The great animator and director will be at the festival on Sunday 18 February for two events at Bristol Old Vic. At noon, he’ll be introducing his dystopian masterpiece Brazil. The screening will be followed by a short onstage chat and Q&A.

At 6pm, The Dark Genius of Terry Gilliam is a clip-laden celebration of his career, all the way from Do Not Adjust Your Set (1968) through the Python years to The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018). He’ll be reflecting on this remarkable body of work in a live conversation before receiving the 2024 Aardman Slapstick Award for Visual Comedy.
