Sci-Fi-A-Thon comes to the former Bristol IMAX
Back for its second event, Screens of Matter presents a trio of science fiction staples from 40 years ago on the giant screen at the former Bristol IMAX this month. The line-up comprises self-consciously hip comedy The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (15), John Carpenter’s Starman (PG) and Alex Cox’s cult hit Repo Man (18).
Screens of Matter is a community interest company founded by Bristol-based producer Emmeline Rodman, whose goal is to establish a dedicated science fiction cinema in the city. Proudly neurodiverse, and diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, Emmeline finds that science fiction films provide her with a place of solace from these conditions.
“This event is a galactic pilgrimage for serious sci-fi fans,” she says. “The Screens of Matter project continues to grow, with the aim to someday open a sci-fi cinema space. I know there are some weird and wonderful people in Bristol. By attending this event, they can help it become a reality that is out of this world.”
The Sci-Fi-A-Thon takes place at the former IMAX cinema inside Bristol Aquarium on Saturday 24 February, from 10am-5.30pm. Go here for tickets.
