New locally made documentary explores the FTX crypto scandal
Confused by the Sam Bankman-Fried fraud trial? Wondering what the dishevelled tech bro actually did to merit a 25 year jail sentence? Want to know what all this ‘crypto’ business is about anyway? Help is at hand thanks to Bristol filmmaker Richard Whittaker of local indie Whitcun Media, whose accessible new documentary When Money Breaks: FTX is the perfect primer.

Narrated by Bristol-based actor Savannah Betts, the 54 minute documentary goes behind the headlines to explore the business reasons why crypto currency exchange FTX failed so spectacularly. It includes segments shot at Whiteladies Road farmers markets to solicit real world opinions from vendors and shoppers.
When Money Breaks: FTX received an 8/10 review on FilmThreat, which noted that the film “succeeds by breaking down a complicated issue and making it palatable for a bunch of normies”. It was picked up by LA-based distributor Indie Rights and is now available for viewing on Amazon Prime. Richard and his small team are now in pre-production on a follow-up film, which they intend to be “bigger, better and with the focus on business/consumer journalism”.
