New Film Releases: August 24-30 2018

As summer blockbuster season slowly winds down, we’re starting to see some quality fare back in the multiplexes at last – notably The Children Act and Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman.

Plenty of previews this week, including the pleasingly obscene The Happytime Murders (Mon-Thur) and social media thriller Searching (Sat & Sun), as well as one-offs with director Q&As in person for American Animals and by satellite for Cold War. The Man from Mo’Wax also gets its Bristol premiere at the Orpheus.

Pray for good weather for those outdoor screenings of Ice Age (Millennium Square) and The Shape of Water and True Romance (Bristol Zoo Gardens). If those doesn’t appeal, this year’s Found Footage Film Festival arrives at the Arnolfini and national animation celebration Anim18 continues with Mary and the Witch’s Flower and singalong screenings of Yellow Submarine.
