National Theatre Encore: King Lear

Director
Jonathan Munby
Certificate
12A
Running Time
220 mins

Knackered old King Lear decides to carve up his realm between his three daughters, with the spoils going to the biggest toady, so he doesn’t have to bother with all that monarchical bollocks. Bad idea. Is that tragedy on the horizon?

No stranger to the Bard’s great tragedy, Ian McKellen returned to the role he previously played on stage at the RSC in 2007 for Jonathan Munby‘s much-acclaimed contemporary production for the Chichester Theatre, which then transferred to the West End for a limited run.
