‘Last Leg’ host Adam Hills is the latest addition to the Slapstick Festival line-up

By Robin Askew  Monday Jan 15, 2024

Australian comedian, disability activist and novelist Adam Hills MBE, host of C4’s award-winning The Last Leg, will make his Slapstick debut at next month’s festival. His rare live appearance is at the Bristol Old Vic on Sunday 18 February as the star of a newly added Desert Island Comedy Flicks event. As the title suggests, Hills will be nominating the comedy films that he’d take with him were he to be marooned on a desert island.

This event replaces the previously advertised one focusing on Alan Bleasdale’s dark political comedy G.B.H.  “A scheduling clash regrettably means we’re having to delay the G.B.H. show until later on but we’re delighted we can now bring Adam Hills on board,” explains Festival Director Chris Daniels. “He is famous for his quick wit, mastery of slapstick-inspired pranks and his knowledge and love of many styles of comedy. So we’re expecting much hilarity and some very interesting film choices.”

In another change to the advertised programme Adam Hills will join Mike McCartney at Bristol Beacon’s Lantern Hall on Saturday 17 February as Mike reminisces about the silents he watched as a child with his brother, Sir Paul, and his own adventures with the band The Scaffold. The duo will also introduce their favourite Buster Keaton clips and shorts.
