Goblin soundtrack Suspiria in Bristol church
Dario Argento‘s lurid, grandiose 1977 horror movie Suspiria is considered a classic of the giallo genre. For the uninitiated, it’s the tale of an American ballet student who arrives at a storm-lashed dance academy in Germany only to find that it’s run by a coven of witches. ‘Orrible murders ensue, while Argento breaks out his palette of primary colours. Key to the film’s success was the fabulous soundtrack composed by Italian progressive rockers, and Argento’s frequent collaborators, Goblin.
Now known as Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, since keyboard player Simonetti is the sole original member, they continue to tour and record, playing a memorable gig at the Fleece back in February. Goblin also perform live to screenings of Suspiria, but have never done so in Bristol until now. On December 7, they appear in the suitably atmospheric surroundings of St. Thomas the Martyr Church in Redcliffe, soundtracking the film from start to finish with that splendidly creepy score. Tickets are £22.50 (plus inevitable booking fee).
This is a fringe event by the enterprising Bristol metalfest Temples, which was successfully inaugurated at Motion back in May. To book tickets for Suspiria, go here. For more on the Temples festival’s 2015 line-up, head over thisaway
